Homemade Cinnamon Buns
Okay, we all have those days when we want to indulge in something sweet. Sometimes we want just a little bit more than a juicy piece of fruit or a tasty smoothie. I developed this healthy alternative with clean ingredients, Homemade Cinnamon Buns. No refined sugar, egg free, dairy free, and yeast free too!
This recipe was created as an experiment, and I think you'll be happy with the results. I created this just for my boys as they were thinking about cinnamon buns. My boys believe that I can create anything, and have some high expectations! I am happy to find ways that they can still enjoy a special treat with clean ingredients.
I have included name brands of items I like to use, feel free to substitute brands that are available to you. I do my shopping at Whole Foods and Costco. Whole Food's 365 and Costco's Kirkland brand are both reasonably priced for those looking to eat clean on a budget. If your ever dissatisfied they both have an awesome return policy.
Here is what you'll need:
1 1/2 tsp Frontier Cream of Tartar
3/4 tsp baking soda
1 tsp Kirkland Brand Sea Salt
2 tbsp Kirkland Organic Coconut Oil (melted)
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup Organic 365 Canned Coconut Milk
1 tbsp cinnamon
1/3 cup raisins
2 tbsp pure maple syrup
Kirkland Parchment Paper
Oven set to 400 degrees
Rolling Pin (optional)
Sharp knife
Place all items in a KitchenAid mixer with a dough hook except cinnamon, raisins, and maple syrup, mix until well combined. If the dough is sticky, add a little more flour. The dough should be able to be pulled out of the mixer in a dough ball and not stick to your hands.
Place the dough ball on a piece of parchment paper and flatten out to a rectangle. You can use a rolling pin for this step.
Mix the cinnamon and pure maple syrup together in a small bowl and spread evenly over the rectangle. Sprinkle with raisins and roll up from the short side. Use a sharp knife and cut into 1 1/2 inch circles and place in a baking dish. Cook in 400 degree preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, till lightly golden.
Remove from oven and cool.
If you want a dairy free glaze I recommend using the following ingredients as a glaze.
1 tbsp Nutiva coconut manna
1 tbsp Kirkland's pure maple syrup
1 tbsp Kirkland's Organic Unsweetened Almond milk
Mix ingredients together in a small bowl. The coconut manna will absorb the liquid so drizzle quickly over the cinnamon buns. If it is too thick to drizzle add 1 tsp more of almond milk until desired consistency is reached.
Eat and enjoy! Yum!😊
I would love to hear how this turned our for you so, please leave me a comment or tag me on Instagram. Just living proof of where there is a will there is a way!
Indulge my friend without guilt.😊
Blessings!
Bridget
